sirens & doorbells
to forever running [a poem]
emergency exits
a bolting physique
fire alarms, all sing
in solidarity
-
descending
descending
the spiraling stairs
steps on cement
a prolonged rememberance
i see you in orange flashes
you witness my mean streak
you witness the fire
youre a burning memory
-
a runaway car, dilapitated
hands on the steering
my heart palpitating
-
one last look in the rearview mirror
one last look at my crime
one last place to run from
i see you in the hindsight
your face subtly foreign
i look away like always
i feel just like a child
foot on the pedal,
i accelerate
a trail of smoke
a trail of everything
left behind
-
headlining the news
a building burned to the ground
a pile of black soot & crumbling concrete
a cause of rapid fire
im losing, cant you see?
-
i will empty the drawers
i will leave before dawn
i travel light or at least
thats what i tell everyone
-
i run at the sound
of sirens & doorbells
i run because i can
i run because it is easy
it is easier than you
calling the police
and saying: "this person
isnt who i thought she would be"
